Earlier this week, Bunch posed a question on our fan page: Would you give your kid a used toy for the holidays? One of the respondents was Lisa Kelly, who, in an effort to live more green, has been giving her son her old toys as gifts since 2008. We are seriously freaking out over these photos she sent us. Partridge Family View-Master? The complete Dr. Seuss? Vintage ’70s Fisher Price medical kit? Are you kidding us?! See the gallery at the foot of the post for Lisa’s photos!
About two years ago, I made a New Year’s resolution to not buy anything new for the year of 2008 (unless it was a complete necessity, like food or drugstore item). I’d already been pretty eco-conscious: changed my light bulbs, don’t own a car, am a veggie, and shopping for vintage clothing has been a passion for years. Read more...
We at Bunch were squealing with glee about the release of Fantastic Mr. Fox! We haven’t been this excited about a new movie since…well, October when Where the Wild Things Are came out. What’s with all the hip directors turning their sights to children’s films nowadays? We can’t figure it out, but the combination of Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl has us excited beyond words.
Director Wes Anderson
Before you head to the theatre to see this dazzling film, round up some neighbours and friends for a pre-show party! Activity Village has instructions and a template for crafting homemade fox masks, and with some modifications kids can go as other characters from the film! They will have so much fun channeling their inner animal. Set the tone with a playlist of ‘60s pop and folk from the Beach Boys and Burl Ives.
This past Sunday’s event at Revival (783 College Street) was a day of singing, dancing and rocking out! Montreal’s Urockaoke came to town to serve as a live backup band for some karaoke style singing. A number of brave kids and their parents signed up to belt out anything from “Down by the Bay” to “Livin’ on a Prayer.” The performances were MC’d by Abdominal. During band breaks everyone grooved to tunes supplied by DJ Fase, who brought along his son Pharoah!
Living like a rock star can get tiring, so kids could also go downstairs to the chill out room where reps from Design Exchange helped out with button-making and album cover design. Back upstairs, kids could make up a band name and snap a very professional band photo.
