Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lundgren was a fun read. Lefcadio (the Lion Who Shot Back) by Shel Silverstein. We also loved all the Enid Blyton books in the Magic Farway Tree Series and Witches, Charlie and the Choc Factory and James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. With 2 boys ages 4-6.

Meri Perra asks if she is “lacking something as a parent.” I would say “yes;” self control and class. It’s an adult thing….something that parents should have. As a father of 3 young boys, I am mortified at the trash mouths of parents these days and, who learns those words as a result? My kids, that’s who. It’s a never-ending battle thanks to our egalitarian society that dictates that we should mingle with the lower(potty-mouth) classes. It’s hard to teach your children about appropriateness when seemingly respectable adults are throwing around curse words in front of their own children, or in public and at public volume. Our society sucks. Parents like Ms. Perra aren’t helping.
