We at Bunch were squealing with glee about the release of Fantastic Mr. Fox! We haven’t been this excited about a new movie since…well, October when Where the Wild Things Are came out. What’s with all the hip directors turning their sights to children’s films nowadays? We can’t figure it out, but the combination of Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl has us excited beyond words.

Director Wes Anderson
Before you head to the theatre to see this dazzling film, round up some neighbours and friends for a pre-show party! Activity Village has instructions and a template for crafting homemade fox masks, and with some modifications kids can go as other characters from the film! They will have so much fun channeling their inner animal. Set the tone with a playlist of ‘60s pop and folk from the Beach Boys and Burl Ives.
If the movie piques your kids’ interest in nature, schedule a trip to Kortright Conservation Centre between January 10 and February 1. Their winter animals-themed activities include making a pinecone birdfeeder, a bird slide show and a winter wildlife hike (to see some foxes perhaps?)
This is also a great time to get kids interested in everything Roald Dahl! Host a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (that’s the Gene Wilder version, not the Johnny Depp one) and gorge on sweets (chased with some veggie sticks and fruit!). Or check out Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes and whip up some Hair Toffee or Marshmallow Pillows. And more Dahl-inspired crafts can be found here.
Bunch would love to see photos of your own Fantastic Mr. Fox festivities!
