Walking past the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co. in Seattle, you might see silver-clad mannequins or get a chance to observe someone being tested in a “Space Competency Certification Station”. If you decide to enter, you’ll be transported into another reality altogether. The walls are lined with scientific equipment from another era, an emergency spaceship repair hull and machines whose uses are left to the imagination of the observer.
Moving through the store, shelves are piled high with cans of nitrogen (N2) with a purity of 78.084% and neon (Ne) (0.0018%, pure). Yes, they’re cans of air, but they’re cleverly presented and beautifully designed cans of air (just don’t try to ship them FedEx). Prospective space travellers can also stock up here on bricks of gravity, rocket fuel, ray guns, and intergalactic peace treaties.
If you’re feeling unsure, you can buy a jug of certainty, or if you think you might just be a little too sure, GSTSC has jugs of uncertainty on the next shelf.
Once you’ve passed the products on sale, you will encounter at the back of the store the Atomic Teleporter (Keep atoms belonging to your person inside teleporter at all times.) Inside this black cylinder is a revolving door leading to the tutoring centre where between 25 and 38 kids come daily for free one on one tutoring and creative and expository writing support courtesy of 826 Seattle.
Whether it’s a quick stop on your way to Neptune (you can park your rocket on the roof) for atomic ray guns and some freeze dried meals, or to stock up on towels for your hitchhiking kit, Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co. can help you out.
