Remember summers when you were a kid, riding your bike around your neighbourhood with your friends until it was time to go to bed? For me and my friends growing-up, bike riding is what the summer was for and now my son and his buddies love tooling around on their bikes, too. In downtown Toronto, which is where I’ve always lived, people are really passionate about bikes. We’ve got a cyclists union, a world-famous bicycle thief and (fingers crossed) sometime this fall the city might introduce bike sharing . So it’s no surprise that for tons of Toronto kids and parents, family cycling is part of their lifestyle and part of their summer.
To find out what kinds of bike adventures families were having, Bunch borrowed Purple Shutter from the good folks at Yahoo! Canada and for the next two weeks, we are lending Shutter to families in our community and asking them to blog about their ride.
To get the ball rolling, we invited families that we know love to bike to take Shutter out for a spin but we also opened it up to all the Bunch families and asked them to request a date with Purple Shutter and to let us know where they would go and what they would do. So many families asked for a turn with Shutter that we had to bring in “wranglers” to get Purple Shutter from one date to the next! So far, TO families have taken shutter to a skate park and a flooded playground, ridden her while wearing a dragon tail, invited her out for some fresh baked cookies and shown her off to friends and neighbours. Families have also been adding some new decorative touches to Purple Shutter and we’re curious to see just how decked out and eccentrified the bike will get.
