Sure, Christmas is alright. There’s tasty baked goods, family dinners, A Christmas Story and gifts, but where’s the spookiness? Yes, a large man dressed in Coca-Cola colours creeping around and eating your cookies is a tad spooky, but it’s no Halloween. October 31st has ghosts, goblins, freaks and free candy. The Pettit household loves Halloween so much, we’re planning on making a eerie advent calendar filled with ghoulish goodies to help count down the days. Read more...

Today’s Postcard from Bunchland comes from our friend and blogger Megan Pettit.
Kenny Bridges from Moneen looks pretty cozy in some sort of animal skin while alexisonfire’s George Pettit looks ready to charge at something with his antlers.

Statistics say that half of pregnancies are unplanned, but I say that statistics are made up 78.5% of the time. Still, there’s no denying that lots of pregnancies are not planned.
My husband and I had been married for a ripe three months when my lady time was late. I had assumed it was because we were closing a deal on a house and stress caused shark week to take a hike. I wanted to be sure, so we picked up a test after renting a horror movie and before grabbing some Taco Bell to go.
My seven layer burrito went cold as I discovered two little lines on that pregnancy test. I don’t remember what horror movie we rented because we never got around to watching it. Too busy talking about the surprise baby we were going to have. Read more...
Bunchland’s outgoing editor Amanda Factor shares her favourite posts from the past year
Since Bunchland launched in January, the roster of talented writers blogging for us has grown. Our blogger pool is now made up of a diverse group of people, and I’m really proud of how far the site has come!
I was thrilled when Beth Blenz-Clucas agreed to blog about music for us. Beth runs Sugar Mountain PR, representing kindie music artists, so needless to say she was the perfect choice as our music blogger. Every Monday, Beth’s 2 Tunes 2 Ways posts appear on Bunchland, pairing a kids’ song with a grown-up song that all members of the family can enjoy. Her posts are fantastic and expose us to music we’ve never heard of before, and sometimes they remind us of songs from our childhood that we’d forgotten about. Read more...
I had a scheduled caesarean section. After attending prenatal classes and reading an entire shelf of childbirth books, I felt emotionally ready for a vaginal birth, but physically my body was not having any of that. On top of that, two ultrasounds revealed that my son was large; either 10 or 11 pounds, and he was not descending.
My OBGYN sat me down and gave me the option of trying to deliver naturally or choosing to have a C-section.
“Honestly, do you think I’ll end up having an emergency C-section?” I asked my doctor. He replied, “He’s not coming out that way,” as he pointed to my nether region. Read more...
This is just one example of something Megan does in a given day.
This is a question most stay-at-home moms or moms on maternity leave hear at least once. Sure, to someone that isn’t a parent it’s probably hard to imagine that a tiny little blob of a baby could take so much time and effort. Perhaps baby-less folk envision a life of loafing on the couch eating bon-bons while watching Maury Povich as Junior coos softly in the crib. Let me tell you what I did today.
At 7 a.m., Monkey Man got up as usual. To lots of parents, sleeping in until 7 is a luxury, and I know how lucky I have it. But 7 a.m. came fast when I stayed up replying to a few emails that had “Happy Halloween” in the subject line. Babies don’t care what time you went to bed at, they’ll still get up early. They don’t even care what time they went to bed at, so it’s no use keeping them up thinking you’ll sneak in extra shut-eye. Read more...
